What did Latif do? Claim a catch that wasn't legal? Yeah, against Bangladesh...the ball popped out and he picked it up and claimed it: content-ind.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/story/133468.htmlThat was a hell of a close thing though. Simon Taufel (even though I love love love him) kinda dropped the ball (boom-tish) by not asking the third umpire on that one. Although Yousuf (?) seemed happy enough to walk. Though that may have been because Bell was so adamant about the wicket. Too many layers to this one. The problem is the laws state that they can only call for the third umpire if both umpires are unsighted, which they weren't. Stupid rule, but then again the umpires weren't so good at following the rules yesterday so they could've referred it... Ultimately, Taufel wouldn't have been able to tell conclusively if it was clean or not and would have to rely on Bell, who still decided to claim it. It was a spectacular day of cricket though...today was some good Test match cricket as well, without the controversy. In other cricketing news, it seems Ganguly is gone for good...Dravid's been appointed for the next Test series as well as ODIs.

Yeah, they really need to change that law. There have been plenty of catches that the umpires have seen perfectly clearly and they still can't be sure.
Yet another very good series. Must be something about England.
Ganguly never really convinced me. What do you think?

Ganguly never really convinced me. What do you think? He was never a master tactician, but I think he did a lot of good in terms of the cohesion and attitude of the team. He instilled a fighting spirit in the team and was responsible for the emergence of a few integral players (Sehwag, Harbhajan). All in all, he was decent and probably should've gone of his own accord rather than being forced out...he could've left on a high after the Pakistan away series, but still kept going to the detriment of the team and his own form.

No one actually liked Ganguly the person, but they liked what he did for the team. But yes, Lara is an absolute champion. Brilliant...from someone who is the best batsman of our time (marginally ahead of Tendulkar on current form). Gomesh, you might be able to download the match from www.desitorrents.com - they have a lot of cricket videos.

Man, Lara is a champion. Even more extraordinary is that he's managed to make all those runs with such an odd technique. All that leaping back and across and that windmill backlift of his. Can't argue with a winning formula though.
It's just a shame that he had to be part of such a lousy team. He deserved way better. Go back and check out the number of innings in which he contributed more than half the team total (today was one, I'm sure the 400* was another). It just makes his individual achievements all the more unbelievable. I mean, reclaiming a world record that you set ten years ago? That's just awesome.
Well done to you Brian Charles.
PS you think Sachin will overhaul him Dasa?

I think, providing injures don't get hold of him, Sachin will comfortably overhaul him simply because he's 4 years younger.
I've been thinking quite a bit at the old argument of Sachin vs Lara...and I've come to a conclusion. I think Tendulkar is better 'at his best' than Lara 'at his best' for one main reason - that being, even when Lara is playing at his best (153* or 277 style) he offers chances...he still hits dangerous shots and occasionally mistimes the ball, whereas when Tendulkar is at the top of his game, he not only demoralises the bowler with strokeplay but does not offer even a sniff of a chance.
It's ultimately down to Tendulkar having an immaculate technique along with his beautiful strokeplay...and of course, it's easier for lefties. Still, who would want to argue about who is better between these two. It's amazing enough that two of the best ever have been around at the same time...in fact, I can't think of any other period where more than 1 batsman has been around who could have legitimate claims to being the 3rd best (behind Bradman and Sobers).

You're right, Sachin should have him covered comfortably. He's only 1000 odd behind him now isn't he? I know he's already over 10,000.
Further to my earlier point about Lara being so unfortunate to be part of such a woeful team, I just read that his 226 the other day was the third time he has scored a double century in a defeat (!) No one else has even done that twice.

Yeah...he also has the record for most runs in a defeat...351 I think it was, against Sri Lanka (221 in the first innings, 130 in the second, still lost by 10 wickets).

England have fallen a fair way....very good stuff by Pakistan though, love watching Yousuf and Inzy bat and Shoaib seems like a totally different player now.

Go you fuckin' Pakis.
Sour grapes I know, but it does feel good to watch someone put the hurt on Engerland.
Yousuf and Inzy were great, shame about Inzy running himself out though. And Shoaib bowled a hell of a lot smarter (although to be fair the Poms could have dealt with his slower balls a lot better). Also awesome: Kaneria. The man can land a wrong'un like no other. A very good team effort.

Go to www.cricketweb.net and read the match report of the first days play between South Africa and Australia. You might find a familiar name.

Nah, don't get paid...the site doesn't make much of a profit. I just applied and they liked my writing, so I'm doing stuff like match reports and player profiles.

Ha! Very cool. I like your description of Hussey. He's a ripper, especially in the short game.
Who needs pay? I would do that for free too.
Which player profiles are yours?
