Melb Victory vs Adelaide Match review
(well there are Gig reviews on the other board, so why not)
1. Archie is a class above the rest. only player willing to take others on. only player trying to create something. the team is built around him and good reason too, but didn't work on the day, when the lesser lights didn't pull thier weight.
2. danny allsop is rubbish. twice he's in front of goal, and the ball either rns past his legs or went thru them. all he had to do was touch the ball and it woudl have flown in
3. crossing is very poor. substandard in fact. might need to fly beckham down to teach these ppl how to cross a ball
4. muscat is too slow. definately shouldn't be in the national team, and if he is, its more for experience then anything. either that or he plays as a sweeper.
5. need a dead ball specialist. the chinese guy that adeliade have is pretty good. our free kicks were mostly wasted.
6. also the players are quite slow mentally. there is very littly vision to their play
7. melb don't use their width properly, and till the second half were ineffective bringing the ball thru the middle too
8. defending looks suspect. adeliade did a good job though
9. refereeing was disgraceful. if the FFA want this game to take off in australia they better do soemthing about the refereeing cause is was shocking. worst referring i have ever seen, and not just cause i'm biased. linesman was pretty bad too with his offside calls. they obviously haven' adapted to the pace of the new league, and the ref wasn't too willing to let the game go on.
10. but its end to end football. lots of opportunities. i was jumping up and down a lot. finishing shoudl be better though.
I had low expectations, so i was quite happy. rahul and yee i think were expecting premiership/seria a football, so they were disappointed with the quality. atmosphere was awesome. basically another packed game. probably wouldn't go to every match, but maybe a couple a season
oh and is olympic park a full sized soccer pitch? looked small to us. the goalie's kickouts basically reached the other penalty box, and lots of crosses went too far. they shoudl redevelop the stadium. only one screen, and lots of columns blocking the view, and lots of standing room only areas.
if australia qualify for the world cup, it will take off. if not in 5 yrs it might be back to 4-5 thousand hardcores watching the games
